Lady Vikings Sweep Moberly on Sophomore Day

The Jefferson College Softball team celebrated Sophomore Day in dominant fashion, sweeping Moberly Area Community College by scores of 9-1 and 10-2.
Jefferson wasted no time setting the tone in game one, breaking things open with a six-run second inning. Leadoff hitter Maddie Guevara powered the offense, going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run — her seventh of the season. Reagan Kemp was perfect at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, while Lucy Koenigsfeld added two hits, two runs, and an RBI.
In the circle, Kaylee Hilton and Laney Halley combined for a strong outing, allowing just four hits and one earned run over five innings to secure the win.
Game two followed a similar script, with another explosive second inning fueling the Vikings’ offense. Kemp sparked the rally with a leadoff single and stolen base before Koenigsfeld launched a two-run homer to left field. Later in the inning, Maddie Guevara came around to score after being hit by a pitch, and RBI hits from McKinley Rowinski and Alexia Chevrier capped off a four-run frJefferson continued to pile on runs throughout the game. Logan Veselske drove in Lia Ott in the third inning, and a big fourth inning added four more runs. Rowinski doubled in Guevara, Macey Nix contributed a sacrifice fly, and Meeny Taylor delivered an RBI double to extend the lead.
Rowinski starred offensively in game two, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Koenigsfeld continued her strong day with three RBIs, while Taylor dominated in the circle. The sophomore tossed all five innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out 10 and walking three to earn her 10th victory of the season.
With the sweep, Jefferson improves to 23-8 on the year. The Lady Vikings will return to action Tuesday as they host conference rival St. Charles Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
